GENEVA, N.Y. — The William Smith College tennis team fell to Vassar 7-2 in Bristol Field House this afternoon. The Herons fall to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the Liberty League.
Vassar ended doubles play with a 2-1 lead. Juniors
Allie Perron and
Kate Foley notched a point at No. 2 over Sarra Yekta and Melina Stavropoulos 8-5. First-year
Maggie Bonomo and sophomore
Dina Rigas fell to Frances Cornwall and Tara Edwards in the No. 1 spot 8-5. Sophomores
Charlotte Engebrecht and
Katelyn Nguyen fell 8-1 at No. 3 to Morgane Flournoy and Ashley Fair.
Vassar clinched the match in singles play. Bonomo had the lone point for the Herons in singles play besting Yekta 6-2, 5-7, 10-7 at No. 2. Perron forced a third set 1-6, 6-3, 3-10 but fell to Cornwall at No. 1. Vassar won Nos. 3 and 4, 6-1, 6-1. Nguyen fell at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2 to Flournoy. Junior
Morgan Hamre was bested by Joyce Park 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 6 spot.
William Smith will be back in action Tuesday, April 2, when they travel to Ithaca for another Liberty League contest. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
