ITHACA, N.Y. — The William Smith College tennis team defeated Ithaca 7-2 tonight. The Herons are now 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the Liberty League.
William Smith had a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Sophomores
Katelyn Nguyen and
Charlotte Engebrecht tallied a win at No. 3 over Sara Steinberg and Chloe Levy 8-3. First-year
Maggie Bonomo and sophomore
Dina Rigas fell to Kathryn Shaffer and Caroline Dunn 8-4 in the No. 1 spot. Juniors
Allie Perron and
Kate Foley notched a win at No. 2 over Brianna Ruback and Alexandra Dyszewski 8-2.
The Herons clinched the match in singles play. Perron bested Ruback 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. Rigas tallied a win at No. 4 over Dyszewski 7-5, 6-2. Foley fell to Shaffer 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 spot. Senior
Alex Greenberg notched a win at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0. Junior
Leland Barclay bested Steinberg 6-1, 5-7, 10-8 at No. 5.
William Smith will be back in action Saturday, March 6, when it takes on Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
