BRONX, N.Y. —The William Smith College tennis team fell to New York University 8-1 this afternoon. The Herons are now 9-5 overall this season.
The Violets led 3-0 at the conclusion of doubles play. First-year
Maggie Bonomo and sophomore
Dina Rigas fell to Fleura Shiyanova and Coco Kulle 8-1 at No. 1. Juniors
Kate Foley and
Allie Perron lost to Judy Kam and Anna Maria Buraya 8-5 in the No. 2 spot. Sophomores
Katelyn Nguyen and
Charlotte Engebrecht were defeated by Alice McGinty and Rupa Ganesh at No. 3.
New York University clinched the match in singles play. Senior
Alex Greenberg had the lone point for the Herons. She bested Ayesha Das 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6. Perron fell to Buryaya 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot. Bonomo was swept by Kulle 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Foley was bested by Shiyanova 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. Rigas fell to Ganesh 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Junior
Leland Barclay was defeated by Kam 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.
The Herons will be back in action tomorrow, April 14
th, when they travel to Hoboken, N.J. to face Stevens. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
