GENEVA, N.Y. — The William Smith College tennis team defeated Rensselaer 5-4 this evening inside Bristol Field House. The Herons improve to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in the Liberty League.

Maggie Bonomo and sophomore
Dina Rigas fell to Brenda Peng and Sanjana Surapeneni 8-6 in the No. 1 spot. Juniors
Allie Perron and
Kate Foley notched a win at No. 2 over Andrea Valencia and Nisha Rajamohan 8-4. Perron and Foley are 13-3 in doubles play at No. 2 this season. Sophomores
Katelyn Nguyen and
Charlotte Engebrecht fell at No. 3 to Elly Klages and Jolee McCluskey 8-4.
The Herons clinched the match in singles play. Surapeneni defeated Perrron 7-6, 7-5 in the No. 1 spot. Bonomo tallied a win over Junjia Lyu 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Bonomo is 18-6 overall this season. Peng bested Foley 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. Rigas notched a win at No. 4 over Valencia 6-3, 6-3. Junior
Leland Barclay tallied a win over Rajamohan 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5. Barclay is 8-1 in the No. 5 spot this season. Senior
Alex Greenberg defeated McCluskey 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 6 spot.
The Herons will be back in action Wednesday, April 24, when they travel to Clinton, N.Y, to face Hamilton. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
