SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — The William Smith College tennis team defeated Union 7-2 this afternoon. The Herons are now 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the Liberty League.
William Smith had a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of double play. First-year
Maggie Bonomo and sophomore
Dina Rigas fell 8-6 to Tal Pezzuco and Paige Webster in the No. 1 spot. Juniors
Kate Foley and
Allie Perron bested Megan Brown and Cathy Xing 8-4 at No. 2. Sophomores
Charlotte Engebrecht and
Katelyn Nguyen notched a win at No. 1 over Sydney Robison and Samantha Siegel 8-1.
The Herons clinched the match in singles play. Perron notched a point at No. 1 after a battle in the third set. She bested Pezzuco 6-1, 4-6, 14-12. Bonomo defeated Brown 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. Foley topped Webster 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 3 spot. Rigas bested Siegel 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4. Junior
Leland Barclay notched a point at No. 5 over Xing. Senior
Alex Greenberg fell 6-2, 4-6, 5-10 to Union's

William Smith will be back in action on Thursday, April 11, when they host Nazareth at the HWS Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
