The William Smith College rowing team will compete in the National Invitational Rowing Championships in Worcester, Mass., Sunday, May 12.

For the fourth straight week, the Herons varsity eight remained at No. 9 in the USRowing/CRCA poll.

"We're very excited to be racing at NIRCs," Head Coach
Sandra Chu said. "The competition here is the best in the country and we're looking forward to showing how our team has progressed. Our goals are to perform higher than our seeding and I think we've done some strong work since last week to help us reach those goals."

William Smith has three crews entered in the one-day regatta. The first Heron crew to take the water will be the varsity four, racing at 8:20 a.m. William Smith's second varsity eight will be on the water next at 10:30 a.m. The varsity eight will round out the morning at 11:30 a.m. The V4 race will feature two heats while the 1V and 2V races will have three heats each. Progression to the finals will be based on finish. The varsity four finals are scheduled to start at 1:20 p.m., the 2V finals will get underway at 3:30 p.m. and the varsity eight finals will start at 4:30 p.m.

William Smith's varsity eight, which is seeded ninth this weekend, is coming off a second place finish at the Liberty League Championships. The Herons' second varsity eight was fourth and the varsity four was third at last week's conference championships. Last year, the Herons finished in the top-10 in all three races at the NIRC. The varsity eight was eighth, the 2V was ninth, and the varsity fuor was seventh. Â
