ITHACA, N.Y. —The Hobart College tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Liberty League tournament thanks to a 5-1 victory over Union at Cornell's Reis Tennis Center. The Statesmen will take on second seed Rensselaer tomorrow at 5 p.m.
Third-seeded Hobart took a 2-1 lead in the match after doubles play. Junior
Alan Dubrovsky and sophomore
Walker Anderson notched a win in the top spot 8-2 over Ioannis Binopoulos and David Bond for their 21st win in doubles play. Senior
Jonathan Atwater and first-year
Jack Ledford notched a win in the No. 2 spot defeating Austin Egna and Max Egna 8-3. First-year
Thomas Shung and junior
Colin Molloy were edged by Cameron Klepper and Nick Weitzman 8-7 in the No. 3 spot.
Dubrovsky clinched the match with his 25th singles win over Binopoulos 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. Sophomore
Walker Anderson had his ninth singles win in the No. 3 spot over Del Schunk 6-3, 6-0. Ledford had his 16th overall singles win this season defeating Austin Egna 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. Atwater won the first set 6-3 and dropped the second set 3-6 in the No. 2 spot when the match was clinched. Shung won the first set 7-5 in the No. 5 spot and Molloy was behind 4-6, 4-3 at No. 6 when the match was completed.
Hobart and Rensselaer will meet tomorrow at Cornell's Reis Tennis Center in the semifinal. The Engineers won the last meeting 7-2 inside Bristol Field House on April 19.
