PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The William Smith College field hockey team lost its season opener to St. John Fisher 3-1 at Growney Stadium this evening. Bre Socker scored two goals for the Cardinals.
St. John Fisher came out strong the first half, putting eight shots on junior goalie
Alexandra DeVito. Socker took the ball around DeVito to put the Cardinals up 1-0 in the first quarter. Socker put in another goal for St. John Fisher off a feed from Lindsay Scott. Junior
Kelsey Pierce led the Herons with two shots on goal and DeVito saved six shots in the first quarter.
Reghan Amoroso added another goal in the third quarter to extend the Cardinals lead to 3-0. Pierce scored a goal for the Herons in the 41st minute off a pass from sophomore
Anna Rider.

Sophie Craig rattled off two, putting one on goal.
DeVito started in goal for the Herons and made 15 saves in 60 minutes. Kelly Bergamo made three saves for the Cardinals.
The Herons will return to action Wednesday, Sept.4, when they host Geneseo for their home opener. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on McCooey Field.
