GENEVA, N.Y. — The William Smith College field hockey team lost to Geneseo 4-0 this evening on McCooey Field. The Knights improved to 2-1, while the Herons fell to 0-2.
William Smith came out strong in the first quarter, and led 3-0 in shots with one penalty corner. Geneseo fought back in the second quarter, recording five shots and two penalty corners.
Three minutes into the third quarter, Erin Nolan whacked a ball out of the air and into the net, putting the Knights up 1-0. Nolan continued the momentum and scored again off a pass from Hayley Fonfara.

Sophie Craig continued to pressure Geneseo's defense, getting her fifth shot of the night off in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Craig led the Heron offense with five shots, and senior
Kelsey Pierce tallied two. Julia Kim smacked the ball from the top of the shooting circle to give the Knights a 3-0 lead.

Alexandra DeVito stopped the ball six times for the Herons, and Natalie Chojnacki made seven saves to earn the win.
William Smith will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 7, at noon, when they host No. 19 Ursinus on McCooey Field.
