Game Recap: William Smith Field Hockey | | Amanda Zumpano

Herons fall to Lebanon Valley

GENEVA, N.Y. —The William Smith College field hockey team lost to Lebanon Valley 3-1 in the final game of the 2019 William Smith Classic this weekend. The Herons fall to 1-4 overall, and the Dutchmen improve to 2-4 on the season.

Lebanon Valley scored early in the first quarter when Danielle Alba connected with Hannah Simon. The Herons reflected the same momentum at the start of the first quarter, when first-year Mackenzie Wodka took the ball up the field and passed it off to junior Sophie Craig, slotting the ball past Nikki Willi.

Cecile Kat put the Dutchmen up 2-1. Simon scored her second goal of the afternoon with minutes left in the first half.

William Smith's offense continued to rally, but Willi stopped seven shots. The Herons outshot Lebanon Valley 8-2 in the second half, and edged the Dutchmen in penalty corners 9-6.

Junior Alexandra DeVito made four saves in the first half, and sophomore Stephanie Stone made one save in the second half.

The Herons will be back in action Saturday, Sept 21., when they host Cortland on McCooey field. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
