Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. — After two days of competition at the HWS Tennis Center and Bristol Field House, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championships have narrowed the 64-player singles draw to just four players, and the 32-team doubles draw to just two teams.
The singles championship will resume at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, with the semifinal round at the HWS Tennis Center. One semifinal will feature New York University teammates Karina Jensrud taking on Anna Maria Buraya. The Violets' Coco Kulle will take on Vassar's Miriam Gandham in the second semifinal match. After a brief rest period, the singles championship match will be played right after the semifinals.
The doubles championship will be the final match of the three-day tournament. NYU's Anastasiia Balyk and Buraya will take on Skidmore's Chanhtel Thongphok and Risa Fukushige.
The singles and doubles champions in each of the ITA's nine regions will advance to the 2019 ITA Cup. The National Small College Championships will be held Oct. 17-20 at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Ga.
William Smith had four players in the singles draw, and two pairs in the doubles draw. On Sunday, sophomore
Maggie Bonomo won three consolation matches. Bonomo defeated Vassar's Melina Stavropoulos 6-4 in her last match of the day. Senior
Leland Barclay competed in two consolation matches, and defeated Scranton's Marissa Campo 6-3.
The ITA Northeast Regional Championships are the final event of the fall season for William Smith. The Herons return to competition on Feb. 22, 2020, when they host Skidmore inside Bristol Field House.
