GENEVA, N.Y. — The William Smith College field hockey team fell to Hamilton 3-0 this evening. The Continentals improve to 3-3 while the Herons fall to 2-5.
Maddie Beitler led Hamilton with two goals, and goalkeeper Maggie Reville made three saves for the win.
Hamilton got off to a fast start when Beitler scored ten minutes into the game. Less than a minute later, Maura Holden found the back of the cage when she got her stick on a shot from Lizzie Clarke at the top of the arc.
Hamilton increased their lead by three when Tracey Stafford found the ball in a scramble, and passed it off to Beitler, who recorded her second goal of the game.
William Smith rallied in the fourth quarter, and had their best scoring opportunity when sophomore
Elizabeth Jacobia fed junior
Sophie Craig off a penalty corner. Craig rattled off a shot at the top of the arc, but Reville came out of goal to deflect Craig's shot wide.
The Continentals recorded 20 shots, and the Herons tallied seven. Hamilton led in penalty corners 16-5.
Sophomore
Stephanie Stone stopped 2 shots, and junior
