Statesmen corral Thoroughbreds 3-0

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-The Hobart College soccer team scored three second half goals and senior Brian Salazar made a career-high eight saves in a 3-0 Liberty League victory over Skidmore at Wachenheim Field this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen are now 8-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play.

Neither team found the back of the net in an evenly played first half. The Thoroughbreds (4-2-2, 0-2-0) held a slight 6-4 edge in shots in the opening 45 minutes. Senior Binjo Emmanuel had Hobart's best chance of the first half, but his shot was stopped by Sebastian Bosch. Two minutes later, Alex Ricci had Skidmore's best chance of the half. He carried the ball into the box, but his shot that was ticketed for the upper left corner was turned aside by Salazar.

Junior captain Pete Critchlow opened the scoring in the 48th minute. He fired a shot from the right side of the box past Bosch and into the left corner of the cage. Senior Nate Cary was credited with an assist on the goal. Skidmore nearly tied the game a minute later, but Salazar made a diving stop to deny David Braman on a penalty kick.

Junior Juan Widoycovich gave the Statesmen a 2-0 lead in the 59th minute. He headed a long throw-in past Bosch for his second goal of the season. Senior Ben Orr rounded out the scoring in the 83rd minute on a tap in goal. His first goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Nick Kriak.

Hobart finished the game with a 13-12 advantage in shots. Skidmore earned an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

Salazar played all 90 minutes as he earned his fourth shutout of the season. Bosch made six saves in goal for Skidmore.
