Box Score GENEVA, N.Y. — The William Smith College tennis team began the 2019-20 season hosting the Mary Hosking Invitational this weekend.
Sophomore
Maggie Bonomo and Senior
Allie Perron represented the Herons in A flight singles. Bonomo fell to Ithaca's Brianna Ruback 8-5 in the first round. Perron defeated RIT's Shayna Ginster 9-7 to advance to the quarterfinals. Perron then defeated Rochester's Cami Ruiz Vega 9-7. Perron fell 8-2 to Hamilton's Lauren Holtzman in the semifinals. Senior
Morgan Hamre defeated the Bomber's Sarah Kohberger 8-5 in the first round of D flight singles. Hamre fell in the quarterfinals to St. Lawrence's Emily Harris 8-5.
In the consolation finals, Bonomo defeated Ginster 8-4 to win A flight singles. Senior
Leland Barclay advanced to the B flight singles final, falling to Geneseo's Natalia Krol 8-6.
Bonomo and Hamre defeated Ithaca's Rel Klein and Shannon Wolfe 8-1 in B flight doubles. Bonomo and Hamre fell in the semifinals to the Saints' Gabriella Dadoly and Maddie Nasch, 8-4. Perron and Senior
Kate Foley won the A flight doubles consolation final after defeating the Yellowjackets Emma Hicks and Abbey Reinhart 8-4.
Overall, William Smith finished the weekend with a 7-10 record in singles play and a 5-3 record in doubles matches.
The Herons will be back in action Sept. 21-23, when they host the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships at the HWS Tennis Center.
