HENRIETTA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team earned its ninth straight win and senior
Tucker Lescoe broke the program's career record for 3-pointers made at Rochester Institute of Technology tonight. The Statesmen defeated the Tigers 66-53 in Clark Gymnasium.
Hobart (10-1, 4-0) put three players in double figures led by Lescoe, who scored a game-high 14 points. Sophomore
Jackson Meshanic and first-year
Daniel Cook added 10 points each. Senior
Edens Fleurizard chipped in eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds, helping the Statesmen to a 43-32 advantage on the glass. Sophomore
Dan Masino contributed seven points, eight rebounds, and a game-high five assists.
RIT's Chuck Okehie led the Tigers with 12 points. He was one of three Tigers (4-6, 1-2) with a team-high four rebounds.
The first half was a defensive struggle. Hobart took a 21-15 lead into halftime after shooting just 26.9 percent from the floor. RIT shot just 20.7 percent.
When the Statesmen returned to the floor after the break, they looked like a new team. In the first seven minutes of the second half, Hobart made eight of its first nine shots from the floor, including all four of its 3-point tries. The resulting 20-4 run stretched the Statesmen lead to 41-19.
Lescoe came into the game with 242 career 3-pointers, two shy of the 18-year-old record set by Michael Gambino '02. Lescoe led the charge out of halftime, making three triples in a four minute span. The record breaker came near the 15-minute mark. He caught a pass just in front of the Hobart bench, pump faked to get his defender in the air, dribbled once to his left and stepped back behind the 3-point line and let fly his 245th 3-point basket. Lescoe added a fourth triple a minute later.
Hobart led by as many as 28, 53-25 on a 3-pointer by Masino. The Statesmen were able to get 16 players into the game, with 12 contributing to the scoring. Down the stretch, RIT outscored Hobart 28-13, but the Statesmen never led their lead dip below the final margin of 13 points.
Hobart continues its five-game road trip on Saturday, Jan. 11, when the Statesmen continue Liberty League play at Ithaca (7-2, 3-0). Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
