Game Recap: Hobart Basketball | | Ken DeBolt

Hobart extends win streak to 10

ITHACA, N.Y.—The Hobart College basketball team earned its 10th straight victory this afternoon, defeating Ithaca College 74-65. The Statesmen improved to 11-1 on the season, marking the best record through 12 games in the program's 110-season history.

Hobart (5-0 in Liberty League) nearly doubled up the Bombers on the glass, outrebounding the home team 58-30. The total ranks sixth on the Statesmen single game list and is the most rebounds in a game by Hobart since grabbing 59 caroms against Ithaca on Dec. 10, 2016. Senior Edens Fleurizard led the way with a game-high 12 boards. First-year Daniel Cook posted his first collegiate double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore Dan Masino was the game's leading scorer with 22 points, including a 4-of-9 effort from beyond the 3-point arc. Senior Tucker Lescoe was also 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, finishing with 18 points. Sophomore Jackson Meshanic chipped in 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and a 5-for-5 effort at the line.

The Statesmen outshot the Bombers 43% to 33% from the floor, 33% to 17 percent from 3-point range, and 91% to 56% from the free throw line. Ithaca was able to keep the game close down the stretch by taking advantage of Hobart's season-high 25 turnovers. The Bombers had a 24-4 edge in points off turnovers.

Riley Thompson led IC with 13 points. The Liberty League's leading scorer finished eight points under his season average. Sebastian Alderete and Bryan Karl each posted 10 points for the Bombers (7-3, 3-1).

In the first half, neither team led by more than five points. The Statesmen carried a 30-25 lead into the break thanks to a Masino 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Hobart came out of halftime firing on all cylinders, making 7-of-14 from the floor with three 3-pointers and 4-of-5 at the line. Lescoe led the charge with six points as the Statesmen built a 15-point lead by the midpoint of the second half.

Ithaca used an 11-5 run to trim Hobart's advantage to just five with about five minutes to go, but the Statesmen countered with a 7-1 run and kept the Bombers at bay down the stretch.

Hobart will conclude a five-game road trip on Tuesday, Jan. 14, when the Statesmen continue Liberty League play at Union. The opening tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
