#8 Statesmen rally past Johnnies 4-2

BOSTON, Mass.-The eighth-ranked Hobart College hockey team scored twice in the third period to rally past Saint John's 4-2 and secure a spot in the title game of the 2020 Boston Landing Invitational. With the win the Statesmen improve to 8-3-1 on the season.
 
Hobart will take on Bryn Athyn tomorrow at 6 p.m. The Johnnies (2-5-4) will take on Nichols in the consolation game at 3 p.m. Both games will take place at the Warrior Ice Arena. The Lions beat the Bison in today's second game.
 
Junior PA Martineau led the way for Hobart with three points on two goals and an assist. Senior Lawson MacDougall and sophomore Blake Coffey also scored for the Statesmen. Sophomore Joe Halstrom made 28 saves in goal as he earned his eighth win of the season.
 
Ryan Kero and Travis Brown scored for SJU. Andrew Lindgren made 34 saves in just under 59 minutes of action for the Johnnies.
 
Coffey opened the scoring just under two minutes into the period. He fired a shot from the high slot past Lindgren into the back of the net. It was Coffey's first goal of the season. Martineau was credited with an assist on the goal after forcing a turnover below the goal line.
 
Kero tied the game with his seventh goal of the season. He played give-and-go with Davis Kinkendall in the neutral zone and slipped a shot past Halstrom. The Johnnies took a 2-1 lead at the 15:54 mark on Brown's fourth goal of the season. The defenseman blasted a shot through traffic and into the goal. Brady Heppner and Kyle Wagner were credited with assists on the power-play goal.
 
Martineau tied the game just under three minutes into the second period with his second goal of the season. He carried the puck into the left faceoff circle and wristed a shot between Lindgren's right pad and the left goal post.
 
Martineau notched the game-winning goal at the 10:11 mark of the third period. He forced a turnover in the offensive zone and snapped a shot into the upper left corner of the cage. His third goal of the season was unassisted. MacDougall put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal with 40 seconds remaining in the game.
 
Hobart finished the game with a 38-30 edge in shots on goal. The Statesmen were 0-for-5 on the power play and the Johnnies were 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
