Hobart College sophomore attackman
Jason Knox was named to the USILA Team of the Week for his scoring outburst against Siena last week. The Huntsville, Ontario, native broke the Northeast Conference single game scoring record as well as the Statesmen's Division I era record for goals in a game in the 26-9 win over the Saints.
Knox scored his first goal of the season with 31 seconds left in the first quarter on Saturday. He tallied five more times in the second quarter and twice in the third quarter. Knox tied his own Hobart and NEC records with his ninth goal 45 seconds into the fourth quarter and rifled the record-breaker home midway through the quarter. Overall, his 10 goals are tied for third on Hobart's single game list, trailing only John Topichak's 14-goal game against Brockport in 1969 and Andy Boyar's 12-goal game against Hamilton in 1965.
Knox, who had an assist in the third quarter, is the second Statesmen with 10 or more points in a game. He joined
Chris Aslanian '13, who had six goals and seven assists for 13 points against Wagner, on March 18, 2017.
Knox was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week yesterday. It's the second time in his career that he has been named to the USILA Team of the Week, earning the honor after scoring nine goals at Siena last season.
After two games, the Statesmen lead the nation in scoring offense at 24.0 goals per game.
Only once in the program's 118 seasons has Hobart scored more goals through two games. The 1977 Statesmen scored an incredible 55 goals to begin its march to the national championship. That year, Hobart drubbed Rochester 33-1 in the opener and followed it with a 22-6 victory over Adlephi. The '77 Statesmen scored at least 15 goals in every game, capping a 15-0 season with a 23-13 win over Washington (Md.) in the title game.
Hobart will wrap up its season-opening three-game homestand Saturday, Feb. 22, welcoming Colgate to town. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on WEOS-FM (89.5/90.3).
