GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College lacrosse team will host Colgate University Saturday, Feb. 22, to wrap up its season-opening three-game homestand. The Statesmen and Raiders will face off at 1 p.m. on Stiles Field at the Thomas B. Poole '61 and Family Sports Dome.
Saturday's game will be the 68th meeting between the Central New York rivals. Hobart leads the series 52-13-2, prevailing in each of the past two meetings. Attackman
Eric Holden scored four times to lead the Statesmen to a 12-6 win over the Raiders in Hamilton last season.
The high-scoring Statesmen are off to a 2-0 start after beating Canisius 22-8 and Siena 26-9. Hobart leads the nation in scoring offense (24.0 gpg), scoring margin (15.5 gpg) and points per game (34.5). The Statesmen also rank in the top 10 in shot percentage (6th, .397), man-up offense (7th, .667), ground balls per game (7th, 40.0), and assists (8th, 10.5).
Fourteen different Statesmen have scored goals this season. Sophomore attackman
Jason Knox scored all 10 of his team-leading goals in last week's win over Siena. Eighteen different players have at least one point, led by Holden. The senior Tewaaraton Award candidate has nine goals and four assists for a team-high 13 points. First-year
Adam Shea has won 64.4% of his faceoffs and has a team-high 19 ground balls. In goal, senior
Sam Lucchesi sports a 6.71 GAA and a .667 save percentage.
The Raiders come to Geneva for the final game of a four-game road trip. Colgate lost 19-6 at No. 10 North Carolina, 21-14 at No. 5 Syracuse and most recently, 20-11 at Princeton yesterday. The Raiders are averaging 10.33 goals per game while giving up 20.0 goals per game.
Senior attackman Griffin Brown and sophomore attackman Brian Minicus lead the offense with 10 points apiece. Brown has scored a team-high eight goals while Minicus has handed out a team-high eight assists. Senior Malcolm Feeney has a team-high 16 ground balls and has won 48.9% of his faceoffs. Sophomore Sean Collins has played all 180 minutes in goal, posting 45 saves and a .429 save percentage.
Due to state fire code, occupancy of the dome is limited to 299 people, including student-athletes, coaches, officials and game management staff. Admission to the game will be restricted to people on the teams' pass lists. There will be no general admission.
The only beverage allowed inside the Dome is water. Food and drink are otherwise prohibited. Vaping, smoking, or the use of other tobacco products are also prohibited as is chewing gum.
