OBERLIN, Ohio—The Hobart College tennis team defeated Oberlin 5-4 this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen are 2-1 overall this season.
Hobart was ranked 34th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III Team rankings.
Hobart took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Sophomores
Jack Ledford and
Thomas Shung fell 8-4 at No. 3 to James Dill and Henry Bulkley. First-years
Kaan Ayman and
Harry Lyu defeated Stephen Gruppuso and Elliot Nuss 8-6 in the No. 2 spot. Senior
Alan Dubrovsky and junior
Walker Anderson downed Camron Cohen and Sean Billerbeck 8-5 in the No. 1 spot. Dubrovsky and Anderson are 7-4 in doubles play this season.
In singles play, Dubrovsky defeated Gruppuso 6-1, 6-3 at No.1. Dubrovsky is 9-2 overall in singles play this season. Ayman earned a win at No. 2 over Cohen 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. Ayman is 8-2 overall in singles play this season. Lyu defeated Dill 6-3, 7-6 in the No. 4 spot. Lyu is 5-3 overall in singles play this season. Anderson fell at No. 3 to Zachary Vaughn 6-2, 6-7, 3-6. Ledford fell 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot. Sophomore
Jeremy Atwater fell 6-0, 9-6, 10-6 in the No. 6 spot.
The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, Mar. 1, when they face Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio at 8 a.m.
