ROCHESTER, N.Y.— The No. 35 Hobart College squash team defeated No. 26 St. Lawrence and No. 47 Vassar this afternoon at the Liberty League Squash Championship. The Statesmen defeated the Saints 6-3, and they swept the Brewers 9-0.
In the opening match against St. Lawrence, the Statesmen started off with a point with a win by default at No. 9. Sophomore
Cameron Temoyan won the Statesmen's second point at No. 5, defeating Aaron Levy 11-8, 11-8, 11-2. Junior
Quinn Udy fell at No. 1, and first-year
James Mazzarelli fell at No. 4, leaving the match tied 2-2. First-year
Charlie Beall won a five game battle at No. 8, and sophomore
Eric Molina won in four games at No. 6 to give Hobart a 4-2 edge. Sophomore
Mo Abdelhafez won in three games at No. 3, and sophomore
Quran Davis defeated Tyler Schmalz in four games to lead Hobart past the Saints.
In the match against Vassar, Mazzarelli won at No. 4 11-8, 11-2, 11-7. Temoyan defeated Reese Collins 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 at No. 5. In the No. 1 spot, Udy earned a win over Sameer Mustafa 13-11, 11-4, 11-7. Abdelhafez won in three games at No. 3, and Beall won another five game battle at No. 8. Molina defeated Jonah Miles at No. 6, and junior
Jeffrey Wan won in five games in the No. 9 spot. First-year
Giacomo Dalle Molle downed Milind Joshi 12-10, 11-4, 11-5, at No. 2. Davis won in three games at No. 7.
The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 9 for the second day of the Liberty League Championship. Hobart will play Bard at 10 a.m., and No. 5 Rochester at 3 p.m. at the Smith Squash Center.
