Ellie Burns scored four goals each to lead the 19th-ranked William Smith College lacrosse team past Nazareth 13-3 in a nonconference contest on Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium this afternoon. In addition, junior
Mekayla Montgomery set the Herons' career draw controls mark winning her 173 career draw late in the second half.

Murphy added a pair of assists to finish with a game-high six points for William Smith (2-1). The four goals and six points match her career-high. Burns had five points in the contest. Juniors
Ellen Arena and Montgomery each scooped up a game-high five ground balls. Sophomore
Payton McMahon led the Herons with three draw controls. Junior
Olivia Hofmann started in goal and made six saves in 60 minutes of action.

Emma States scored all three of the Golden Flyers' (1-2) goals. Lily Aldrich added a pair of assists. Katie Lawrence brought in four ground balls. Emma Robinson won a game-high five draws. Â Katie Lawrence started in goal and made 10 saves.

Just over two minutes into the game, Murphy opened the scoring with her sixth goal of the season. She bounced a shot past Lawrence. The goal extended her streak to 20 games with at least a point. One minute later, junior
Rachel Yackel converted on a free position attempt. It was her third goal of the season. Murphy completed her hat trick, scoring the game's next two goals. Just over nine minutes into the game she collected a feed from Burns and dunked a shot past the goalie. Eight minutes later, she fired home a free position shot for her eighth goal of the season. States broke up the four-goal run with her 10th goal of the season. She dodged around a defender and bounced a shot past Hofmann. First-year
Zoe Cook made it 5-1 with a free positon goal with 7:39 remaining in the first half. Twenty seconds later, States notched her second goal of the game off a feed from Aldrich. McMahon rounded out the first half with her eighth goal of the season. She ripped a shot into the upper right corner of the cage.

Cook extended William Smith's lead to 7-2 with her second goal of the game and fourth tally of the season just under two minutes into the second half. Burns notched a woman-up goal with 21:47 left in regulation to give the Herons a six-goal lead. She one-timed a feed from Yackel past Lawrence. Murphy's fourth goal of the game and ninth of the season gave William Smith a 9-2 lead with 19:12 remaining in the game. She ripped a shot into the upper left corner from just outside the goal crease. Senior
Rachel Slagle was credited with an assist on the goal. Four minutes later, Burns pocketed her second goal of the game off a feed from Murphy. States snapped the five-goal run with her 12th goal of the season. Her hat trick goal was assisted by Aldrich.

Two mintues later, Burns completed her hat trick. Â She faked her defender and fired a shot into the upper half of the cage. Burns added a fourth goal with 4:28 left in the game. Murphy notched an assist on the tally. It was Burns' team leading 11th goal of the season. First-year
Kaitlin Pellechia closed out the scoring with her fifth goal of the season. Fellow first-year

William Smith finished the game with a 27-12 edge in shots and had a 23-11 advantage in ground balls. The Herons were perfect clearing the ball going 22-for-22. The Golden Flyers were 15-of-23 on their clear attempts. Nazareth won the draw control battle 11-7.

William Smith will be back in action this weekend, March 7-8, when it heads to the Keystone State for a pair of games. The Herons will take on eighth-ranked York (Pa.) Saturday, March 7, and Dickinson, March 8. Opening Draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. in both games.
