#7 Herons blank Raptors 5-0

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The seventh-ranked William Smith College soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory over Bard in a Liberty League contest at Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex this afternoon. With their seventh-straight win, the Herons improve to 8-1-1 overall and 4-0-0 in Liberty League play.
 
Katrine Berg led the way for William Smith, registering a pair of helpers. Five different Herons found the back of the net in the victory. Amanda Kesler and Kirsten Nelson each played 45 minutes as William Smith notched its sixth consecutive shutout.
 
Madeline Chilton, Seymone Rosenberg and Sam Finn each played 30 minutes in goal for the Raptors (1-7-0, 0-4-0). They combined to make 15 saves.
 
The Herons dominated the game right from the opening whistle, finishing the game with a 39-1 edge in shots and a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Julia Berg opened the scoring in the 13th minute. She fired home a shot from near the penalty spot. Berg's second goal of the season was assisted by her sister Katrine Berg. Six minutes later, Seneca Blakely-Armitage notched her sixth goal of the season. She tucked a shot inside the left goal post from 18-yards out. William Smith continued applying the pressure in the first half, compiling 19 shots in the opening 45 minutes.
 
Julia Keogh extended the Herons' lead to three goals in the 61st minute. Her Liberty League-leading ninth goal of the season was assisted by Katrine Berg. Four minutes later, Maegan Manning notched her first goal of the season. She buried a shot from just outside the 18-yard box. Emma Faso tacked on a goal with 30 seconds remaining in regulation.
 
William Smith will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 6, when it takes on Nazareth. The non-conference contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
