GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team and Vassar battled to a scoreless draw on Cozzens Field this afternoon. With today's tie, the Statesmen are 7-6-2 overall this season with a 3-3-2 mark in conference play.
Guillermo Castaneda Chang played all 110 minutes in goal for Hobart and made three saves as he collected his fourth shutout of the season.
Eric Wnorowski played all 110 minutes in goal for the Brewers (10-2-2, 4-1-2). He made seven saves.
Hobart had the game's first six shots.
Amad Miller nearly opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but his shot was stopped by Wnorowski. In the 15th minute,
Frederick Madsen's shot from 20 yards away just missed the left goal post. Miller had two more shots in the 19th minute turned aside by Wnorowski.
Vassar turned the tide in the 24th minute. Austin Lukasik had a shot stopped by Castaneda Chang. Owen Fauth jumped on the rebound and had his shot turned aside by a diving Castaneda Chang.
The remainder of the first half was limited to a battle in the midfield.
In the 63rd minute,
Nick Kriak had one of the better scoring chances of the game. He broke down the right wing and fired a shot off of the crossbar. A minute later,
Matias Valenzuela Matic ripped a shot that was stopped by Wnorowski. Valenzuela Matic picked up his own rebound and chipped a shot just over the crossbar. Vassar had a flurry in the later stages of the second half, but the shots were blocked by Hobart's defensive line.
In the first overtime,
Landon DeCesare-Fousek had Hobart's best opportunity, but his shot from 22 yards out went wide left. In the 99th minute, Kyles Lopes had a shot smothered by Castaneda Chang.
Robbie Caron nearly won the game for Hobart in the 103rd minute. He found himself behind Vassar's defensive line, broke into the 18-yard box and fired a shot on cage that was smothered by Wnorowski. Miller had one more chance in the final 106:31 but his shot landed harmlessly in the netting on the top of the goal.
Hobart finished the game with a 16-13 edge in shots and an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Hobart will continue its four-game homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 26, when it welcomes Utica to Cozzens Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
