OSWEGO, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team scored a goal in each period as it knocked off Oswego 3-1 in the season opener for both teams at the Deborah F. Stanely Arena & Convocation Center this evening.
Jonah Alexander had a goal and an assist in the victory.
Liam Lascelle played all 60 minutes in goal for the Statesmen and made 22 saves.
Troy Robillard scored for the Lakers. Eric Green played 58 minutes in goal for Oswego and made 20 saves.
Alexander opened the scoring for Hobart just past the 11-minute mark of the first period. He one-timed a pass from
Luke Aquaro into the back of the net.
Cooper Swift was credited with the secondary assist on the goal. The Statesmen continued to apply pressure in the offensive end, but Green was up to the task, making 11 saves in the first period.
Lascelle came up big for the Statesmen on Oswego's first power play of the game. He made three saves and was helped by Swift who came away with a pair of blocked shots.
Oswego fired two shots off the goal post in the opening stages of the second period. Ryan Bunka and Alex DiCarlo dented the iron for the Lakers.
Just before the midway point of the middle period,
Dan Sliney doubled Hobart's lead with his first tally of the season. He fired home a rebound from right in front of the cage. Alexander was credited with an assist on the game-winning goal. With just over two minutes remaining in the period,
Luke Aquaro had an opportunity from the low slot denied by Green.
The Statesmen put the game out of reach 13 seconds into the final period. Fresh out of the penalty box,
PA Martineau slipped a pass to
Chase Bell in the attacking zone. Bell deked around Green and slipped a shot over the goal line.
Robillard ended the shutout bid at the 8:21 mark of the third period. Travis Broughman and Jackson Arcan were credited with assists on the goal.
Aquaro had one last chance for Hobart, but his shot hit the goal post with just under two minutes left in regulation.
Both teams finished the game with 23 shots on goal. Hobart was 1-for-3 on the power play and Oswego was 0-for-5 with the extra attacker.
The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 30, when they take on Manhattanville at The Cooler. Faceoff for Hobart's home opener is scheduled for 4 p.m.
