POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team was defeated by Clarkson 3-0 in a Liberty League contest at Hantz Turf Field this afternoon. The Statesmen are now 5-5-1 this season with a 2-2-1 overall record in Liberty League play.
 
Six different players found their way onto the scoresheet for the Golden Knights (3-6-2, 1-3-0). Bryan Benitez started and played all 90 minutes in goal for Clarkson, making two saves as he earned the shutout.
 
Guillermo Castaneda Chang made six saves in 90 minutes of action in the Hobart goal.
 
The Golden Knights took control of the game right from the opening whistle. In the fifth minute, Nolan Grady had a shot stopped by Castaneda Chang. Four minutes later, Clarkson opened the scoring off of a free kick. Nolan Grady fired a low grounder past the Hobart goalie for his first goal of the year. Mack Walton was credited with an assist on the strike.
 
Landon DeCesare-Fousek recorded Hobart's best chance of the first half. His shot that was targeted for the lower left corner of the cage was stopped by Benitez.
 
Clarkson doubled its lead 58 seconds into the second half. Josh Conklin volleyed a shot into the right corner of the cage. His first goal of the season was assisted by Ethan Boyle and Brandon Bahr. Bobby Guilfoli added an insurance goal in the 66th minute. Guilfoli headed a crossing pass from Zachary Appel into the goal.
 
In the 78th minute, 
Nick Kasper nearly ended the shutout bid, but he fired a shot from 18-yards out off of the crossbar.
 
The Golden Knights finished the game with a 13-3 edge in shots. Both teams had two corner kicks in the game.
 
Hobart will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 15, when it travels to take on Union. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
