#4 Hobart downs Buffalo St. 8-3

BUFFALO, N.Y.—The fourth-ranked Hobart College ice hockey team scored three goals in the second period and four goals in the third period as it raced past Buffalo State 8-3 in a non-conference contest this evening. The Statesmen are now 4-0-1 to start the season.
 
Dan Sliney led the way for Hobart with two goals and an assist. Artem Buzoverya (2g), Griffen Sanom (1g, 1a), Mark Benemerito (1g, 1a) and PA Martineau (2a) also had multi-point games for the Statesmen. Liam Lascelle started and made 16 saves in the Hobart goal.
 
Seven different players recorded a point in the loss for the Bengals (2-2-0). Connor Minch played all 60 minutes in the Buffalo State goal and made 42 saves.
 
Sanom opened the scoring at the 9:49 mark of the first period. He fired a shot from the left faceoff circle past Minch for his first collegiate goal. Martineau was credited with an assist on the goal. The Statesmen finished the opening period with a 10-6 edge in shots on goal.
 
Hobart broke the game open with a dominant second period. The Statesmen outshot the Bengals 24-4 in the middle stanza. Hobart put the game out of reach with three goals in two minutes in the middle part of the period. Benemerito banged home a rebound at the 12:20 mark for his first goal of the season. Christian Duvall and Austin Mourar were awarded assists on the goal. Thirty seconds later. Buzoverya pocketed his first collegiate goal wristing a shot from the slot past Minch. Zach Tyson notched an assist on the goal. Sliney gave Hobart a 4-0 lead 14:26 into the period. His second goal of the season was assisted by Reid Lindsay and Kevin Lassman.
 
Buffalo State broke up the shutout bid at the 16:25 mark of the second period. He blasted a shot from the point past Lascelle. Nikita Kozyre picked up an assist on the goal.
 
Sliney put the game out of reach with his second goal of the game at the 2:47 mark of the third period. He collected a feed from Jonah Alexander and slipped a shot past Minch.
 
Joe Glamos and Joel Frazee scored back-to-back goals for Buffalo State to make it a 5-3 game, but that would be as close as the Bengals would get. Glamos' goal was assisted by Parker Allison and Kerry Kruzel. Frazee's shorthanded goal was assisted by Michael McCosh.
 
Aaron Maguyon, Buzoverya and Chase Bell rounded out the scoring for Hobart. Maguyon's second goal of the season at the 11:40 mark of the period was assisted by Benemerito. Two minutes later, Buzoverya notched his second goal of the game off of feeds from Sliney and Blake Coffey. It was a power-play goal. Bell's second goal of the season was set up by Martineau and Sanom.
 
Hobart finished the game with a 50-19 edge in shots on goal. The Statesmen were 1-for-4 on the power-play and held Buffalo State off the board on its lone opportunity with the extra attacker.
 
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Nov. 12, when it welcomes Cortland to The Cooler. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
