Jackson Meshanic recorded his first double-double of the season, but Oswego State defeated Hobart 63-48 in the championship game of the Max Ziel Tournament this afternoon. Meshanic was named to the All-Tournament Team after scoring 34 points and grabbing 20 rebounds on the weekend.
Meshanic was 8-of-13 shooting on his way to 18 points. He also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. No other Statesman reached double digits.
Pat Healy was Hobart's second leading scorer with seven points off the bench.
Jack Lesure handed out a team-high four assists and grabbed four boards.
Tournament MVP Kaleb Cook scored a game-high 22 points. Jeremiah Sparks chipped in 15 points and a game-high four steals. Louis Fedullo grabbed a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.
Meshanic gave Hobart (2-1) its only lead by draining a 3-pointer to open the day's scoring. The Lakers (2-0) answered with 16 straight points, including eight from Cook. Oswego State extended its lead to as many as 16, the Statesmen used a 6-0 run to get within nine with under five minutes to play in the first half. The Lakers pushed their lead back into double digits for good with an 8-0 run on their way to a 35-20 halftime lead.
Hobart shot just 32.1% from the floor in the first half, going 2-of-11 from beyond the arc. Oswego State shot 45.2% and went 5-of-11 from deep.
Oswego opened the second half on an 8-2 run and never let their lead dip below 11 the rest of the way.
After a three-game road trip to open the season, Hobart will make its Bristol Gym debut Tuesday, Nov. 16 when the Statesmen host Brockport at 7 p.m.
