GENEVA, N.Y.—The sixth-ranked Hobart College hockey team rolled to a 12-1 victory over Johnson & Wales in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this afternoon. For the second-straight game, the Statesmen scored five goals in a period as it improved to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in NEHC play.
Hobart was led by captain
Aaron Maguyon, who had four points on three goals and an assist. His hat trick matches the Hobart record for goals in a game. He is the second Statesman to have a hat trick this season. In total nine different players scored a goal and 16 different skaters found their way onto the scoresheet. Twelve Hobart players had multi-point games.
Adam Dmyterko started and played all 60 minutes in goal. He made 16 saves.
All three goalies saw playing time for the Wildcats (2-4-0, 1-4-0). Jaxon Friedman started and made nine saves in the first period. Jake Perrin came on for the next 30 minutes and made 18 saves. Mike Camasso played the final 10 minutes and made one save.
Hobart jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the end of the first period. Maguyon scored the game's first two goals. Just over two minutes into the contest, he collected a rebound and slipped a shot across the goal line.
Blake Coffey and
Reid Lindsay were credited with assists on the power-play goal. Four minutes later, Maguyon snapped a shot from the slot past Friedman.
Zach Tyson and
Artem Buzoverya were credited with assists on the goal. Christian DuVall made it a 3-0 lead with his second goal of the season. His tally was assisted by
Griffen Sanom and
Reid Lindsay.
Blake Coffey wrapped up the first period's scoring with his first goal of the season. His slapshot beat a screened Friedman into the upper left corner of the cage. Tyson and
Gagik Malakyan notched assists on the goal.
Maguyon completed his hat trick with a goal 3:33 into the second period. He broke down the left wing and wristed a shot off of the right goal post and into the back of the net. Buzoverya and Tyson were awarded assists on the power-play goal. The goal was Maguyon's seventh of the season. Declan Dennehy broke up the shutout. His second goal of the season was assisted by Danny Allen.
At the 13:29 mark of the second period, Buzoverya notched his second goal of the season off of feeds from
Austin Mourar and Maguyon. The goal gave Hobart a 6-1 lead. Fifty-three seconds later,
Wil Crane scored his sixth goal of the season, firing a shot from the left faceoff circle past Perrin.
Ethan Mulhearn and
PA Martineau had assists on the goal.
Luke Aquaro scored twice, raising his season total to seven goals.
Mateo Albinati and
Ethan Mulhearn notched their first collegiate goals in the third period. Tyson added his second goal of the season to round out the scoring. It was the third time this season that Hobart scored five goals in a period.
The Statesmen finished the game with a 40-20 advantage in shots on goal. Hobart was 3-for-5 on the power play while Johnson & Wales was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
After a week off for Thanksgiving, the Statesmen will be back in action on Dec. 3, when it heads to Saratoga Springs, New York, to take on Skidmore. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
