Hobart skates past Southern Maine in NEHC opener 6-1

GORHAM, MAINE.—The fifth-ranked Hobart College hockey team raced past Southern Maine 6-1 in its New England Hockey Conference opener at the USM Ice Arena this evening. With the win, the Statesmen are now 3-0-0 to start the season.
 
Cooper Swift led the charge for Hobart with three assists. Luke Aquaro scored two goals for the second straight game. Matthew Iasenza registered a goal and an assist in the victory. Liam Lascelle started in goal and made 18 saves as he earned his second win of the season.
 
Bobby Kinsey scored for the Huskies (0-1-0, 0-1-0). Anthony D'Aloisio played all 60 minutes in goal for Southern Maine, making 45 saves.
 
Neither team found the back of the net in the opening period. Hobart finished the period with a 17-7 advantage in shots on goal.
 
The Statesmen opened the scoring at the 11:09 mark of the second period. Austin Mourar fired a shot from the point past D'Aloisio for his first collegiate goal. Swift was credited with an assist on the goal. Iasenza scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal four minutes later. He wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle into the back of the net. Shane Shell and Swift were awarded assists on the goal. Hobart broke the game open on Reid Lindsay's first collegiate goal. He blasted a shot from the point through traffic and into the net. Mateo Albinati and Iasenza notched assists on the goal.
 
Southern Maine broke up the shutout bid at the 4:40 mark of the third period. Kinsey slipped a shot past Lascelle for his first goal of the season.
 
Aquaro's first goal of the game extended Hobart's lead to 4-1. Swift and Dan Sliney assisted the goal. Four minutes later, Aquaro beat D'Alosio with a wrist shot from the slot. His fourth goal of the season was unassisted. Wil Crane wrapped up the scoring with 50 seconds remaining. Blake Coffey and Jared Patterson picked up assists on Crane's fourth goal of the season.
 
The Statesmen finished the game with a 51-19 edge in shots on goal. Hobart was 2-for-6 on the power play and Southern Maine was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.
 
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow when they take on No. 11 Babson in a key NEHC contest. Faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Babson Skating Center.
