BABSON PARK, Mass.—The fifth-ranked Hobart College hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with 11th-ranked Babson in a New England College Hockey Conference contest at the Babson Skating Center this afternoon. The Statesmen are now 3-0-1 this season with a 1-0-1 record in conference play. The Beavers are 2-0-1 overall with a 1-0-1 mark in the NEHC.
Two different players scored for Hobart.
Joe Halstrom played all 65 minutes in goal, making 32 saves.
Babson also had two different players score in the tie. Brad Arvanitis played all 65 minutes in the Babson goal, stopping 26 shots.
The Statesmen opened the scoring at the 5:24 mark of the first period when
PA Martineau snapped a shot past Arvanitis. Martineau's first goal of the season was assisted by
Matthew Iasenza. The Beavers tied the game seven minutes later on Chris Rooney's unassisted goal.
Joe Halstrom made 15 saves in the opening period.
Hobart regained a one-goal lead just over three minutes into the second period.
Brenden Howell fired a shot from the left faceoff circle over Arvanitis' glove hand.
Mark Benemerito was awarded an assist on the goal. The Statesmen had a flurry of chances in the second half but were not able to sneak a third goal past Arvanitis. The Babson defense also came away with three blocked shots during the sequence.
Ryan Black tied the game with a power-play tally with 9:45 remaining in regulation. Mike Egan notched an assist on the goal.
Neither team found the back of the net in the overtime session. The Statesmen had the lone shot during the extra period.
Babson finished the game with a 34-28 advantage in shots on goal. The Beavers were 1-for-4 on the power play and the Statesmen were 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
Hobart will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 12 when it takes on Buffalo State in a non-conference contest. Faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
