Hobart College junior attackman
Jason Knox is one of 55 players named to the 2021 Tewaaraton Watch List, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced today. The native of Huntsville, Ontario, made the list for the second straight season.
Â
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.
Â
Knox had a first half hat trick and collected a career-high four ground balls in Hobart's season-opening win over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. In 22 career games, he's produced 57 goals and eight assists for 65 points. Among Division I Statesmen, Knox is tied for 19th in career goals with Chris Pedersen '12.
Â
Knox terrorized Siena during his first two seasons with the Statesmen. As a first-year, he scored nine goals against the Saints, two more than any Hobart player had scored in a single game since the program moved to Division I in 1995. Last season, Knox broke his own record, ringing up 10 goals against Siena, the most by a Statesman since May 21, 1969, when John Topichak '71 set Hobart's all-divisions record with 14 against Brockport.
Â
Knox is the first Statesman to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List in back-to-back seasons since Alex Love '15 appeared on the list in three straight seasons (2013, 2014, 2015).
Â
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the award. Since its inception, eight Hobart players have been on the watch list. In addition to Knox and Love,
Eric Holden '20 (2020), Bobby Dattilo '12 (2012), Tyler Cassell '10 (2010), Max Silberlicht '10 (2009, 2010), Daryl Veltman '08 (2007, 2008) and Greg McCarthy '05 (2005) have been among the contenders for the player of the year award.
Â
Hobart (1-0, 1-0 NEC) will be back in action on Saturday, March 13, when the Statesmen visit Long Island University. The opening faceoff is scheduled for noon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y. The game will be webcast on
NEC Front Row.
