GENEVA, N.Y. —The Hobart College tennis team defeated Rochester 7-2 in its season opener at the HWS Tennis Center this afternoon. The victory was the 100th career win for Statesmen Head Coach
Tim Riskie.
Riskie, who is now in his 10th season, is 100-69 as the head coach of the Statesmen.
Hobart jumped in front thanks to a pair of doubles wins. Junior

Guthrie Speers bested Antony Georgiadis and Connor Wagner 8-4 in the No. 2 spot. First-year
Winter Fagerberg and senior
Jeremy Atwater topped Kenneth Lee and Adrian Zhang 8-4 at No. 3. Pasquale Procaccino and Kai Yuminaga logged an 8-1 win in the top spot for Rochester.
The Statesmen continued to roll in singles play, claiming four of their five points in straight sets. Shung dispatched Wagner 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. It was Shung's second victory over Wagner on the day. Sophomore
Jett Wright defeated Georgiadis 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 4 spot. Fagerberg did not lose a game, knocking off Adrian Zhang 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Speers beat Thomas Xue 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6. After dropping the first set, Atwater rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) win over Kai Yuminaga in the No. 2 spot. Atwater staved off four match points in the third set, forcing the deciding tiebreaker.
Hobart will be back in action next Saturday, March 27, when it opens Liberty League play. The Statesmen will travel to the North Country to take on St. Lawrence.
