GENEVA, N.Y. —The William Smith College tennis team was defeated by Rochester 6-3 in a non-conference contest at the HWS Tennis Center this afternoon. The Yellowjackets won five of the six singles matches to secure the victory. It was the season opener for both teams.
The Herons grabbed a 2-1 lead in the match following doubles play. Junior
Maggie Bonomo and sophomore Audreyanna Camacho cruised to an 8-1 victory in No. 1 spot, besting Cami Ruiz Vega and Jaclyn Dorn. Seniors
Caitlin Chichora and
Katelyn Nguyen knocked off Shreya Mandalapu and Yaya Wang 8-4 at No. 2. Olivia Waysack and Natalie Ramesh logged an 8-1 in at No. 3 for Rochester.
Chichora logged her second win of the day at No. 4 singles. She knocked off Dron 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. The Yellowjackets won four of their five singles points in straight sets. In the tightest math of the day. Ruiz Vega edged Bonomo in three sets, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 7-5.
William Smith will be back in action next Saturday, March 27, when it opens Liberty League play. The Herons will travel to the North Country to take on St. Lawrence.
