Aslanian ’19 picked by Whipsnakes in PLL Draft

Hobart College alum Chris Aslanian '19 was the No. 1 pick of the two-time defending Premier Lacrosse League Champions Whipsnakes Lacrosse Club in the 2021 PLL Entry Draft yesterday. The attackman, who was the seventh overall selection of the draft, spent the past two seasons with the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse.

The PLL and the MLL merged in December.

Aslanian helped the Outlaws to back-to-back runner-up finishes in the MLL. Last season, he was fifth in the league in points per game, producing 17 points (7g 10a) in five games. The MLL played a full season in just one week last summer due to the pandemic.

At Hobart, Aslanian capped his career as the program's Division I era assists and points leader. In 63 games, he recorded 98 goals and 94 assists for 192 points. Only two Division I Statesmen have scored more career goals. In the full history of Hobart lacrosse, Aslanian is one of only six players to accumulate 90 goals and 90 assists. On the program's all-time lists, he ranks seventh in assists, 10th in points, and 18th in goals.

The 2019 Francis L. "Babe" Kraus '24 Memorial Award winner as Hobart's most outstanding senior athlete, Aslanian led the team in assists (34), shared the team lead in extra-man goals (6) and finished second in points (59) that year. Aslanian helped Hobart post a 34-29 record in four seasons, including a 14-10 NEC record. The Statesmen won the 2016 NEC Tournament Championship, the 2017 NEC Regular Season Championship and were the runners-up in the 2019 NEC Tournament.

The 2021 PLL schedule will begin June 4. Unlike traditional professional sports leagues, PLL teams do not have a home city. The league travels the country playing games in major markets over 11 weekends. The 2021 PLL Championship game is scheduled for Sept. 19.
