HENRIETTA, N.Y. — The Hobart College tennis team swept RIT 9-0 in a Liberty League match at the RIT Tennis Courts this afternoon. The Statesmen are now 3-1 overall and 2-1 conference play this season.
Hobart took control of the match with three doubles wins. Senior
Walker Anderson and sophomore
Jett Wright rolled to an 8-0 win the No. 1 spot. They are now 3-1 in the No. 1 spot this season. Junior
Thomas Shung and sophomore
Guthrie Speers snuck past Ethan Martin and Nick Lam 8-6 in the No. 3 spot. Senior
Jeremy Atwater and first-year
Winter Fagerberg closed out doubles play with an 8-7 (11-9) in the No. 2 spot.
The Statesmen won five of the six doubles matches in straight sets. Shung extended Hobart's lead to 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 spot. Atwater clinched the overall math for Hobart, knocking off Verosh Jayanetti 6-3, 6-2. Shung and Atwater are both 3-1 in singles play to start the season. Anderson improved to 2-2 on the year after a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 win in the No. 1 spot. Speers rolled past Jacob Meyerson 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 and Fagerberg bested Jake Wolicki 6-3, 6-0. Fagerberg is now 4-0 to start his rookie campaign. Wright squeaked out a 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 10-6 win at No. 5.
Hobart will be back in action next weekend, April 24-25, when it takes on Ithaca in a pair of matches. The Bombers will host the front end of the home-and-home series at 11 a.m. The Statesmen will return to the HWS Tennis Center the next day, April 25, at 11 a.m.
