ITHACA, N.Y. — The Hobart College tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory over Ithaca in a Liberty League match at the Wheeler Tennis Courts this afternoon. With the win, Hobart is now 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play this season.
The Statesmen swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Senior
Walker Anderson and sophomore
Jett Wright defeated Eric Dubilirer and Nicolas Luis 8-3 in the top spot. Anderson and Wright have won four straight matches in the No. 1 spot and are 4-1 this season. Junior
Thomas Shung and sophomore
Guthrie Speers won 8-3 in the No. 3 spot. They bested Artem Khaybullin and Anthony Villella to improve to 4-1 on the season. Senior
Jeremy Atwater and first-year
Winter Fagerberg were in the closest match of the day. They edged Deon Kraft and Jacob Wachs 8-6 in the No. 2 spot. Atwater and Fagerberg have won two straight matches and are 4-1 as a duo.
Atwater extended Hobart's lead to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Khaybullin in the No. 3 spot. Atwater is now 2-0 in the No. 3 singles spot this season. Anderson clinched the overall victory for Hobart with his third win of the season. He knocked off Nicolas Luis 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. Fagerberg rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 4 spot. He is now 5-0 to start his collegiate career. Wright and Speers won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Wright beat Anthony Villella 6-1, 6-4 and speers knocked off Wachs 6-3, 6-3. Dubilirer rallied to beat Shung 6-7, 6-2, 11-9 in the No. 2 spot for Ithaca's lone point in the match.
Hobart and Ithaca will conclude the weekend series tomorrow, April 25, at 11 a.m. The math at the HWS Tennis Center will begin a three-game homestand for the Statesmen.
