GENEVA, N.Y. — The Hobart College tennis team cruised to an 8-1 win over St. Lawrence in its regular season finale at the HWS Tennis Center this afternoon. With their fourth straight win, the Statesmen finish their campaign with a 6-1 overall record and a 5-1 record in the Liberty League.
Today's senior day victory clinched Hobart's spot in the four-team Liberty League tournament field. The Statesmen's opponent is to be determined pending results of tomorrow's matches.
Hobart took a 3-0 lead in the match at the conclusion of doubles play. Senior
Walker Anderson and sophomore
Jett Wright defeated Leo Romanetz and Nathan Turtledove 8-4 in the No. 1 spot. Anderson and Wright won their last six matches of the season to post a 6-1 record this spring. Senior
Jeremy Atwater and first-year
Winter Fagerberg improved to 6-1 in doubles play with an 8-4 win over Quinn Bermingham and Adam Heilbronner in the No. 2 spot. Junior
Thomas Shung and sophomore
Guthrie Speers edged Cole Hamilton and Benjamin Moolman 8-7 (7-5) in the No. 3 spot. Shung and Speers were are now 5-2 on the season.
Shung gave Hobart a 4-0 lead in the match with a win a No. 4 singles. He quickly dispatched Bermingham 6-1, 6-0. Shung is 5-2 in singles matches on the season. Anderson clinched the overall victory for Hobart topping Romanetz 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Anderson has won four straight matches and is 5-2 in the No. 1 spot. Playing at No. 3 for the first time, Fagerberg continued his undefeated season beating Cole Hamilton 6-2, 6-2. Fagerberg is 7-0 overall, playing in the middle of the lineup. Speers picked up a straight-sets win, besting Jordan Mamelak 6-3, 7-5. In the No. 5 spot, Wright beat Adam Heilbronner 3-6, 7-5, 10-7. Nathan Turtledove earned St. Lawrence's singles point, edging
