GENEVA, N.Y.—Lebanon Valley College scored on a penalty corner in the 16th minute and made it stand up to score a 1-0 victory over William Smith College to conclude the 2021 William Smith Field Hockey Classic.
Less than a minute into the second quarter, the Dutchmen earned a penalty corner. Starting from the right side of the cage, Lebanon Valley (1-4) put the ball in play at the top of the circle where it was passed to Danielle Alba on the left side. Her first shot was blocked by a Heron defender, but she corralled the rebound and tucked her second shot inside the left post for her first goal of the season.
An evenly played match that featured end-to-end action. William Smith (2-2) carried the play late, firing a shot past goalie Corinne Kearney with about 80 seconds remaining. However, the Herons didn't get a chance to celebrate as the shot came just after an official's whistle.
Total shots were even at six apiece. LVC had a 7-5 edge in penalty corners .Kearney made one save to get the win. William Smith goalie

In the Classic's first game today, St. Lawrence (5-1) erased a 3-1 first half deficit to take a 5-3 win over Manhattanville (0-4).
The Herons will be home again on Wednesday, Sept. 15, when they host SUNY Geneseo (3-1). The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
