William Smith (3-2) opened the scoring in the first minute of the second quarter.

Geneseo (3-2) tied the match in the 23rd minute, when Katrina Clare sticked a shot home. The Herons outshot the Knights 9-4 in the first half, but the teams went into halftime tied at 1.
William Smith reclaimed the lead in the 45th minute when
Anna Rider threaded a pass from the left side of the goal, through traffic, to
Mackenzie Wodka, who fired it into the cage.
Geneseo outshot William Smith 3-0 in the fourth quarter, but the Heron defense repelled all advances.
William Smith goalie Kristen McCormack made three saves to earn the win. The Knights' Sarah Quinian also made three stops.
The Herons will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they visit SUNY Cortland. The Red Dragons (5-0) are receiving votes in the latest NFHCA coaches poll.
