CORTLAND, N.Y.- The Hobart College soccer team was edged by 24th-ranked Cortland 2-1 in a non-conference contest at Holloway Field this evening. The Statesmen are now 3-2-0 on the season while the Red Dragons improve to 4-1-1 overall.

Cortland opened the scoring in the 14th minute on Anthony Ruggiero's first goal of the season. He collected a through ball from Jack Coleman and slipped a shot past
Christian Burkhart.

Hobart nearly tied the game in the 17th minute off the head of
Mick van Timmeren, but Braden Melveney made the save. The Statesmen drew level in the 29th minute.
Matias Valenzuela Matic bent a shot from 19 yards out into the upper right corner of the cage. Landon Decesare-Fousek was credited with an assist on the goal.

Hobart had chances in the second half, but was unable to slip another shot past Melveney. He made two key saves on shots from
Connor Koschineg and
Jacob Siegel in the 53rd and 55th minute, respectively.

Blake Aronson scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 66th minute. His breakaway goal was assisted by Ruggiero and Scott Cebollero. It was Aronson's fourth goal of the season.

Burkhart started in goal for Hobart and made five saves in 90 minutes of action. Melveney played all 90 minutes in goal for Cortland, making six saves.

Both teams finished the contest with 13 shots, seven on cage. Hobart had a slight 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Statesmen close out a five-game road trip on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they take on fourth-ranked Rochester. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
