#8 Herons conclude homestand against Geneseo

The eighth-ranked William Smith College soccer team will wrap up its four-game homestand on Saturday, Sept. 18, when it welcomes Geneseo to Cozzens Field for a non-conference contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
 
Saturday's game will be a battle of regionally ranked teams. The Herons and the Knights were both ranked in the initial United Soccer Coaches regional rankings announced on Tuesday. With a new regional alignment for the 2021 season, William Smith and Geneseo are now in Region III which comprises teams from the Empire 8, Liberty League, Skyline, SUNYAC and the University of Rochester. The Herons were atop the first regional rankings of the season and the Knights came in at No. 5.
 
William Smith is 3-1-1 overall and is coming off a 6-0 win over Alfred on Wednesday evening. The Herons are led offensively by Julia Keogh's six goals and 16 points. Sheila McQuillen has a team best five assists. In total, 15 players have recorded at least a point this season for William Smith.
 
Kirsten Nelson and Amanda Kesler have split time in goal this season. Nelson is 2-0-1 with a 0.33 Goals against average and an .833 save percentage. Kesler is 1-1-0.  They combined to shutout the Saxons on Wednesday evening.
 
Geneseo is 4-1-0 on the season and is coming off a 2-1 victory over Nazareth on Wednesday. Hannah Sullivan leads the team with eight points on three goals and two assists. Juliette Fischmann also has three goals for the Knights this season. Angel Bennett has played a majority of the minutes in goal this season. She is 4-0-0 with a 0.57 GAA and a .875 save percentage.
 
Saturday's contest will be the 28th meeting between William Smith and Geneseo. The Herons lead the all-time series 17-8-2, including a 9-4-1 mark in Geneva. In the last meeting, McQuillen and Hinrichs scored for William Smith in a 2-1 win.
 
Admission to William Smith soccer games is free. Fans are asked to monitor their health and stay home if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Properly fitting masks that cover the mouth and nose are required in indoor spaces on campus (including restrooms) and in crowded outdoor settings.
 
Fans who cannot make it to Cozzens Field can follow all the action with Live Stats and HWS All-Access Video. The game will be broadcast live on WHWS-FM (105.7).
