Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.- The William Smith College tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2021-22 season this weekend, Sept. 18-19, at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Championships. Five Herons competed in the regional tournament held at the HWS Tennis Center.

Isabelle Goings-Perrot,
Julia Pida and
Maggie Bonomo competed in the main singles draw. Goings-Perrot and Bonomo logged first round victories for William Smith. Goings-Perrot knocked off Geneseo's Natalia Krol, 6-1, 6-0. In the second round, Goings-Perrot was edged by Rochester's Camila Ruiz Vega, 4-6, 6-0, 10-6. Bonomo collected a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Union's Marilena Karadimou. Bonomo was defeated by Rensselaer's Alex Mednikova, 6-1, 6-4, in the second round. Camacho was paired with the tournament's No. 1 seed, New York University's Carol Plakk. Plakk topped Camacho, 6-0, 6-0. Pida was defeated by Skidmore's Konika Dhull, 6-1, 6-0.

While there was not an official consolation draw, players were given an opportunity to play additional matches against other players in the tournament field. Bonomo notched her second win of the weekend, besting The College of New Jersey's Sarah Phung, 8-6. Goings -Perrot defeated Ithaca's Zoe Davis, 8-6, in a consolation match.
Emma Johnston, who was an alternate for the tournament, logged her first collegiate victory defeating New Jersey City University's Lockslea Mayers, 8-1.

Camacho and Bonomo represented William Smith in the double's championship. They were matched up with NYU's Karina Jensrud and Anastasia Balyk. Jensrud and Balyk emerged with an 8-2 victory.

Sixty-four of the region's best singles players and 32 of the top doubles teams, representing 16 institutions participated in the annual championship. The singles championship will resume at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, with the semifinal round at the HWS Tennis Center. One semifinal will feature Carol Plakk of NYU and Hannah Apsey of Hamilton. In the other semifinal, Skidmore's Katherine Almquist will take on the Violet's Dakota Fordham. After a brief rest period, the singles championship match will be played.

The start of the doubles championship will depend on the results of the singles semifinals. NYU's Fordham and Plakk will take on TCNJ's Charlotte Roarty and Jenny Landells.

The singles and doubles champions in each of the ITA's nine regions will receive an automatic bid to the ITA Cup. In addition, the singles and doubles finalists in seven of the nine regions, including the northeast region, will receive an automatic bid to the Small College National Championship.
