SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team edged Skidmore 1-0 in a Liberty League contest at Wachenheim Field this afternoon. With the win, the Statesmen snap their four-game winless streak and improve to 4-3-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in Liberty League play.
Charlie Widing scored for Hobart in the 29th minute and
Guillermo Castaneda Chang made three saves as Hobart recorded its second straight shutout.
Bobby Stratts played all 90 minutes in goal for the Thoroughbreds (5-3-0, 1-1-0).
Skidmore had the game's first dangerous scoring opportunity. In the 22nd minute Isaac Myran headed a shot on goal that was smothered by Castaneda Chang. Four minutes later, Castaneda Chang made a diving stop on a shot from Perry Sofis-Scheft.
Widing's first goal of the season gave Hobart a 1-0 lead. He deflected a crossing pass from
Matias Valenzuela Matic past Stratts.
In the 49th minute,
Frederick Madsen nearly gave Hobart a 2-0 lead, but his shot just missed the left goal post. In the 54th minute,
Liam Dillon had a shot blocked and Widing's rebound attempt missed wide right.
Skidmore finished the game with an 11-7 edge in shots. Hobart earned a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 29, when it heads to Ithaca for a key Liberty League contest. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at Carp Wood Field.
