Ithaca clips Hobart 1-0

ITHACA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team was edged by Ithaca 1-0 in a Liberty League contest at Carp Wood Field this afternoon. With the loss, the Statesmen are now 4-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in Liberty League play.
 
Hobart seized the momentum at the opening whistle but could not convert on its chances. In the fourth minute, Matias Valenzuela Matic fired a shot just over the crossbar. In the 14th minute, Landon DeCesare-Fousek had a shot smothered by Lee Folger, the Ithaca goalie.  Six minutes later, Amad Miller had an attempt stopped by Folger.
 
Ithaca (4-4-3, 2-0-0) made the most of its first scoring chance. In the 29th minute, Chris Ogden fired home a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box.
 
The Statesmen turned up the pressure in the second half but were not able to sneak a shot past the Ithaca goalie. In the 51st minute, DeCesare-Fousek and Valenzuela Matic each had shots blocked. DeCesare-Fousek then had a shot stopped by Folger.
 
Ithaca had a chance to double its lead in the 75th minute, but Guillermo Castaneda Chang made a diving stop on a shot from Jon Kyriakidis.
 
Castaneda Chang played all 90 minutes in goal for Hobart. He made one save.  Folger started in goal for the Bombers, stopping six shots.
 
Hobart finished the game with a 17-8 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
 
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 2, when they welcome Bard to Cozzens Field. The Liberty League contest is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
