KEENE, N.H. — The Hobart College soccer team defeated Brandeis 1-0 in the opening match of the 2021 Keene State/Home Depot Soccer Classic this afternoon. The Statesmen are now 2-0-0 to start the season.
Hobart scored the game's lone goal in the 23rd minute. Junior
Amad Miller redirected a centering pass from first-year
Frederick Madsen into the lower right corner of the cage. Madsen dribbled the ball deep into the left corner before sending the cross into the 18-yard box and hit Miller with a perfect pass.
The Statemen had all five of the shots in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net again.
The Judges (0-1-1) flipped the script in the second half, outshooting Hobart 5-2. John Loo had a scoring chance for Brandeis in the 52nd minute that was punched over the crossbar by junior
Christian Burkhart. Ten minutes later, Max Horowitz had a scoring opportunity smothered by Burkhart.
Burkhart started in goal for the Statesmen and made two saves as he earned the shutout. Aiden Guthro played all 90 minutes in goal for the Judges.
Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 5, when it takes on Roger Williams. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
