KEENE, N.H. — Junior
Amad Miller's goal with 42 seconds remaining in the first overtime lifted the Hobart College soccer team to a 4-3 win over Roger Williams in the 2021 Keene State/Home Depot Soccer Classic. With the win, the Statesmen are off to a 3-0-0 start for the second straight season.
In the 100th minute, Miller picked up a loose ball just outside of the 18-yard box and fired a right-footed shot into the lower left corner of the cage. It was his second goal of the day.
In addition to the game-winner, Miller opened the scoring in the fifth minute. Off a set piece, he redirected a swinging cross from sophomore
Matias Valenzuela Matic past the Hawks goalie. Miller now has three goals this season, a career high.
Roger Williams (0-1-2) tied the game in the 16th minute. Javi Beltran snuck behind the Hobart defense and buried a shot into the lower right corner of the cage. Matt Bagley was credited with an assist on the tally. In the 33rd minute, Jimmy Keane gave Roger Williams a 2-1 lead. He chipped a shot from just inside the attacking box into the back of the net. Geno Kennedy was awarded an assist on the goal.
Hobart tied the game nine minutes later. In the 42nd minute, sophomore
Nick Kasper logged his first collegiate goal, heading home a
Marcelo Suarez corner kick. Senior
Nick Kriak appeared to give Hobart a 3-2 lead headed into halftime, arching a shot into the upper right corner of the cage. However, the strike was waved off because the shot did not beat the buzzer.
The Hawks regained the lead 90 seconds into the second half when Bagley beat the goalie with a low shot. Beltran was credited with an assist on the goal.
In the 60th minute, first-year
Frederick Madsen notched his second goal of the season. Kasper and first-year
Connor Koschineg were awarded assists on the tally.
Hobart had chances to win the game in regulation, but Hogan Cain was up to the task, posting three saves in the final 20 minutes. He stopped shots from Madsen, junior
Robbie Caron and Valenzuela Maic. In the 83rd minute, Suarez fired a shot just over the crossbar.
Sophomore
Guillermo Castaneda Chang started and played all 99:18 in goal for the Statesmen. He made three saves. Cain got the start in goal for Roger Williams and made seven saves.
Hobart finished the contest with a 12-9 advantage in shots and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
