GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart and William Smith Colleges Sports Performance Team recently added two staff members to the Statesmen and Herons lineup. Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance and Strategic Initiatives
Chris Gray announced that
Derek Berry will serve as an assistant strength and conditioning coach and
Dillan Conley will serve as an assistant athletic trainer.
Berry comes to the Colleges after spending the past five years as a performance specialist with Ignition Athletic Performance Group. During that time, he provided strength and conditioning programing for Loveland and Turpin high schools, assisted the Cincinnati Bengals strength and conditioning staff, worked with professional football players during the offseason and led the strength and conditioning program for the Cincinnati Angels, an AAU basketball program.
A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor's degree in exercise and fitness, Berry is a National Strength and Conditioning Association certified strength and conditioning specialist and a USA Weightlifting Level 1 sports performance coach.
As an undergraduate, Berry worked as a student intern with the Bearcats' football, golf, swimming and diving, soccer and cheerleading teams. He also spent a summer as a strength and conditioning intern for the University of Kentucky football team.
"I'm beyond thrilled to welcome Derek to HWS," says Gray. "He's a wonderful human being and brings with him a wealth of experience from the high school level to the professional level. Derek will be a great coach here at HWS and will also be a valuable addition to our surrounding campus community."
A native of Hammondsport, Conley graduated from SUNY Cortland in December with a bachelor's degree in athletic training. He spent three semesters helping the Red Dragons' Athletic Training staff, working with a wide-range of programs, including basketball, soccer, swimming and diving, track and field, volleyball and wrestling. During his final semester, Conley worked with the Le Moyne College men's soccer team, evaluating injuries and developing treatment plans under the supervision of a certified athletic trainer.
A Dean's List student, Conley was a member of the Cortland Athletic Training Club.
"Dillan is highly motivated and a promising athletic trainer," says Coordinator of Sports Medicine
Stephanie Habecker. "I'm excited to welcome him to our staff. I was very impressed with his composure during the interview process and look forward to working alongside him to deliver care to our student-athletes."
