GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College volleyball team opened Liberty League play with a 3-0 sweep of Vassar College this afternoon.
Leading the way for the Herons was sophomore
Elizaveta Telepova with 13 kills on 24 attempts, hitting .417 on the day. Sophomore
Elaina Wamhoff recorded 29 assists and seven kills in the victory for the Herons.
MATCH MOMENTS:
- The Heron offense started the day strong hitting .294 in set one as a team. Telepova led the team with 13 kills followed by first-year's Hope Von Dohlen (11) and Malya Sayre (9). The Herons would take the first set 25-17.
- Strong defensive efforts from Sayre (11), Ariana Angus (9), and Wamhoff (9) would deny the Brewers offense in set two. The Herons would take the set 25-17.
- The Herons would continue to show a strong presence at the net, recording 13 blocks against the Brewers. Leading the way for the Herons was first-year Jaylynn McCarthy with five blocks, followed by Telepova (4) and senior Lauren DeVaney (2). The Herons would keep the Brewers to a .000 hitting percentage on the set, completing the sweep with a 25-22 win.

Derryk Williams said. "Liza played great and was a force at the net. Elaina was super aggressive today and ran the offense well! We have a lot to work on this week heading to Clarkson but were excited about where we are."
