Herons fall 2-0 at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y.— The William Smith College field hockey team fell to Ithaca 2-0 this afternoon to close out the Liberty League regular season. The Herons now sit at 13-3 on the season and 5-2 in conference play.
 
Juniors Sofia Pattillo and Libby Maxwell led the Herons with two shots each in the loss.

MATCH MOMENTS:
  • William Smith came out firing in the first quarter, recording five shots to the Bombers one.
  • After a solid start for the Herons, Ithaca got on the scoreboard first with one minute remaining in the first quarter. Amberly Christiansen tapped in a cross from Natalie Descalso to beat junior Kristen McCormick on the back post.
  • The Herons and the Bombers would trade possession in the second quarter with the Bombers outshooting the Herons 2-0 to close out the half.
  • The Bombers would strike again in the 32nd minute. This time off the stick of Morgan Mullen who capitalized off a turnover caused by Descalso. Descalso would be credited with her second assist of the day.
  • McCormick played all 60 minutes in net for the Herons, recording four saves on the day.
COACHES CORNER:
"We played well today and started the game really strong in the first quarter and have a lot to build off," Head Coach Sophie Riskie '07 said. "Ithaca capitalized on a few opportunities, but the game was evenly played. We look forward to seeing them again in the Liberty League tournament."

UP NEXT:
The Herons will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 26, when they host Hamilton in a nonconference showdown. The game is set to start at 6 p.m. at McCooey Field.
